Best Business Opportunities in Goa - Identification and Selection of right Project, Thrust areas for Investment, Industry Startup and Entrepreneurship

Why start a Business?

You will always get new knowledge and experience. Time management, organisation, communication, teamwork, accounting and numeracy, making presentations, corporate planning, brand development, and the website design are some of these skills. Some people dislike working for others because they disagree with their superiors' decisions or just dislike being told what to do all day. You will be your own boss if you start a business. Entrepreneurs take joy from their businesses. If you're tired of sitting at a desk all day, dealing with grumpy clients, or dodging your boss's continual complaining, doing something you enjoy, every day seems like an appealing alternative. It's worth the chance if you have a well-thought-out business plan and believe there is a space in the market that you can fill with something you enjoy doing. With hard work and persistence, you can make lots of money. By reducing red tape and other bureaucracy, the government has made it easier to start a business and receive funding.

Why should you start a Business in Goa?

The Emergence of a Startup Culture;

Apart from its growing tourism industry, which contributes significantly to the state's strong economy and employs a huge number of people, Goa is home to several prominent educational institutions. Furthermore, after implementing the 'Goa Start-up Policy,' a number of startups have chosen to locate their offices in Goa. The government hopes to make Goa one of the top 25 startup destinations in Asia and one of India's most popular startup destinations by 2025.

Strong Economic Facts;

Goa is known for having the lowest crime rate in India, the third-highest literacy rate (88.7%), and the densest road network. Goa is one of India's wealthiest states, with the greatest GDP per capita - two and a half times the national average – and one of the country's quickest growth rates, at 8.23%.

Business-Friendly Policies in Goa;

A high-level round table event on ease of doing business in Goa was held at the Taj Vivanta in Goa on January 14, 2021, by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce Goa chapter. At the conference, Goan Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and members from the state's regulatory organisations met 26 Goan business leaders. The goal of the conference was to assemble proposals that would have a positive impact on the ease of doing business. Apart from FDI, Goa has a lot of potential for attracting firms from other states. It accomplishes this by delivering strategic benefits that they may not be able to obtain elsewhere. The government encourages a wide range of businesses to come by offering a single-window clearance system, tax holidays, and GST rebates.

Mineral Resources in Goa;

Goa is a little emerald state on the western coast of the Indian Peninsula. Mineral Resources are abundant throughout the state. Minerals of commercial importance include iron ore, manganese ore, and bauxite. Minor minerals such as Basalt, Laterite stones and rubbles, River sand, Murrum, and others are also in high demand. Iron ore resources can be found in Goa's Northern, Southern, and Central Blocks. In comparison to the Southern and Central Blocks, the Northern Block deposits have a higher quality and quantity of ore. Goa offers an advantage over other exporting regions because of its deep seaport and waterways that cross the terrain for barge transportation.

The Bauxite Mines, which cover an area of 1263.678 hectares and have estimated reserves of 70 million tonnes, is located in South Goa. These are metallurgical-grade bauxite that can be utilised in cement, alumina chemicals, and other uses. The mines are also adjacent to two important ports, Mormugao Port and Betul Port.

Also found here are Minor Minerals: Basalt, Laterite, River Sand, Laterite-Rubble, Laterite-Boulders, Pebble, Murrum, and Lime Shell. Bauxite, Iron ore and Manganese are the major mineral reserves.

Railway Connectivity in Goa;

Goa is well-connected by rail as well. Trains from Mumbai to Panaji take approximately 10-12 hours. Goa has trains to Mumbai and other northern Indian cities, as well as to Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Goa's two main railway stations are Margao and Vasco-da-Gama. Both of these stations are in the state's southern region. Konkan Railways have its terminus in Margao, while the South Central Railways have its terminus in Vasco-da-Gama.

Air Connectivity in Goa;

Airline services connect Goa to the majority of India's main cities. Goa Airport in Dabolim, near Vasco-da-Gama, is where domestic and international flights arrive and depart from Goa. The airport is around 30 kilometres from Panaji, the state capital.

Goa's Tourism Industry;

The beaches and religious sites of Goa make it a popular tourist destination. There is a strong tourism industry in Goa, centred mostly along the coastal areas, with less activity inland. During the winter months, Goa attracts predominantly European tourists, while during the summer and monsoon seasons it attracts primarily Indian visitors. This small state is situated on the west coast of India, between Maharashtra and Karnataka, and is best known to the rest of the world as a former Portuguese colony. Therefore, tourism drives Goa's economy.

Goa receives about 12% of all foreign tourists in India. The number of passengers arriving in the state on the basis of e-tourist visas was measured at 80,928 in 2015-16. Furthermore, the state received 541,480 foreign tourists from 141 nations throughout the world.

Funding for startups in Goa;

By 2025, the Startup Goa Policy aims to make Goa one of India's most popular startup hotspots and place it among the top 25 startup destinations in Asia. By creating a dynamic startup ecosystem, the policy seeks to make Goa an aspirational geographical and human resources foundation for high-value startups, attract the brightest entrepreneurs to the state and create a great startup environment. This policy is to aid Goan entrepreneurs and local startups to establish at least 100 successful startups in Goa over the next five years, resulting in the employment of at least 5000 Goans.

The Incentives Include;

Co-Working Spaces/ Incubators/ Accelerators Subsidy Scheme

Expense reimbursement for startups operating from leased or privately owned premises

Scheme for funding incubation centres within educational institutions

Interest Subsidy Reimbursement Scheme

Program for skill development and promotion

Scheme for the reimbursement of stamp duties

Technology Fellowship and Patent Promotion Scheme

IPR Reimbursement Scheme, and so on.

Choose a Business Idea;

Finding a business idea can be done in a systematic manner by using tried-and-true methods that have worked for other entrepreneurs. Examine your particular interests, analyse existing products, and capitalise on trends to do this.

Choose a Business Name;

Work on coming up with a name for your company that explains what you do is short and distinctive and isn't currently in use in your field. This isn't a simple task, but it's one that can be accomplished with a little effort and creativity.

Make a Business Plan;

Writing a business plan can help you validate and formalise your idea, as well as speed up the process of starting a business by forcing you to sit down and think things through carefully. Make sure you pay special attention to the competition analysis and SWOT analysis areas of your business when writing it.

Understand the Financial Parts of a Business;

Any firm's common purpose is to produce money; hence money flow is an important aspect of running a business. To get started, you'll need to learn the fundamentals, which you can build on as you progress.

Choose a Legal Structure for your Business in Goa;

Your business structure has an impact on many aspects of your firm in Goa, including taxes, operations, and personal liability. The proper structure is one that strikes a balance between the legal and financial protection you require and the flexibility provided by many alternatives.

Research Licenses and Regulations Required in Goa;

Your corporation is subject to local business laws as well as industry-specific laws and regulations in Goa. It's a good idea to seek guidance from a professional consultant before launching your corporation. Investing time and money upfront to get legal guidance can save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
